Three Ways to Protect Your Skin from Winter Weather

The relentless rain and strong winds are not only battering our homes and landscapes but are also taking a toll on our skin. While we can’t control the weather, we can take steps to minimize its impact on our skin. Here are three easy, natural skincare tips to help keep your skin healthy and glowing during this harsh winter weather.

It’s tempting to crank up the heating when the cold, wind, and rain take over outside. But even though we’re cozy indoors, we still need to step out for errands, walks, or school runs. The drastic temperature changes can wreak havoc on our skin, leaving it dry, flaky, sensitive, and sometimes irritated. Even those with naturally radiant skin aren’t immune to the effects of winter weather, which often leads to dull and lackluster skin.

While we can’t change the weather, we can take proactive steps to restore some glow and vitality to our skin. Here are three essential tips to help you tackle the winter elements:

1. Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliating once or twice a week is a great way to remove dead, dull skin cells and refresh your complexion. Look for a natural exfoliator that uses fruit extracts—these can promote the renewal of healthy, fresh skin. Avoid harsh scrubs with rough, uneven particles that might feel effective but can scratch and damage your skin.

Jojoba grains, which are spherical, are an excellent choice. They’re gentle but effective, making them my top choice for exfoliation. I’ve included them in my Scrub Up facial exfoliator because they help slough off dead skin without causing irritation. Regular exfoliation will allow your serums, creams, and oils to be better absorbed, making them more effective.

2. Stay Hydrated

Central heating may keep you warm, but it can also lead to dehydration, which shows up on your skin as dryness and irritation. Keeping your skin hydrated from both the inside and out is essential. Drink plenty of water, coconut water, and herbal teas to keep your body nourished and hydrated.

For your skin, choose serums and moisturizers that contain Hyaluronic Acid. This ingredient helps to retain moisture and plumps the skin, giving it a fuller, more hydrated appearance. By locking in moisture, your skin will be more resilient against the drying effects of the weather.

3. Feed Your Skin

Eating a balanced diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables is key to nourishing your skin from the inside. Organic produce is a great choice if you can get it, as it’s packed with vitamins and minerals that support healthy skin.

When selecting skincare, opt for face oils that contain nourishing ingredients like Rosehip Oil, Argan, Evening Primrose, Macadamia, or Pumpkin. Oils with natural Vitamin E, Q10, and Vitamin A help repair and protect your skin, ensuring it stays healthy and resistant to damage during the winter months.

As we brace ourselves for more cold, wet, and windy days, these simple skincare tips will help keep your skin bright and protected, no matter what the weather throws at you. Stay glowing, even when the skies are gray!
